If you would like to get some “alone time” with your significant other but can’t take an entire week off from work or your other responsibilities, you might want to consider a romantic weekend getaway.  By keeping your vacation to just those two or three days you can save yourself some money and keep things much simpler to plan.

But even when your rendezvous is contained to just a romantic weekend getaway there are still some things you need to remember in order to have the maximum amount of rest and enjoyment.

For one thing, since your romantic weekend getaway is already limited in time, choose a location near your home so you don’t need to waste too much time traveling.  Most people live within driving distance to a lake or other nature resort where you can find cabins or lodges.

Or if you want to visit a big city you can easily find on one the map a few hours away no matter what state you live in.  You don’t want to waste too much time of your romantic weekend getaway being cooped up in the car or in an airplane, so start with a local search when looking for accommodations.

You also don’t want to waste too much time during your romantic weekend getaway being worried about everything else back home.  Your children will be fine for two or three days without you and your emails will be waiting for you as well.

If you want to check with the babysitter or grandma once during your romantic weekend getaway that’s fine but you shouldn’t allow yourself to be preoccupied with everything else outside your cabin or hotel.  Remember why you’re there in the first place and make the time count!

But remember to not try and pack too many activities into your romantic weekend getaway; you might be looking forward to horseback riding, hiking, biking, sightseeing, or some water sports while you’re at the cabin or hotel room but be reasonable about this.  If you wear yourself out and take no time to relax you’re never going to be in the mood for romance.

You may be able to afford a few luxuries for your romantic weekend getaway since you’re probably only paying for two nights in a hotel if even that.  Check your budget carefully before you decide to order anything special however since the credit card bills will last long after your romantic weekend getaway is over!

But if you’re staying at an affordable cabin or a bed and breakfast, you might have some room leftover in the budget to get a nice bottle of wine and some gourmet chocolates.  If nothing else, be sure to pack some nice massage oils or bath beads so that you can really relax.

Be determined to relax together and to take time for just the two of you; shut out everything else for as long as possible to really make your rendezvous as enjoyable as possible.
