Blackpool is a seaside town built on the English North West coast, which is intensely popular with visitors coming from the close by cities and towns which include Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington and more. Blackpool is also fanatically popular with Scottish tourists who turn up in large groups in a similar way to the groups of factory workers of the past on their factory day out. At times it would appear that the resort is awash with vacation accommodation and entertainments and even though there is a great deal of bed & breakfast accommodation in Blackpool it is better to book ahead to avoid upset. Hotels varies from the cheap and chearful to 5 star. You will find many on the sea front alternatively, if you prefer book somewhere far less lively there are some further away.

People first started to visit Blackpool in the 18th century who had visited to indulge in  the new fashion of sea bathing. With the advent of the railway, from 1846, the town experienced more visitors arriving to”take the cure” as sea bathing was called at that time. These days visitors can get to Blackpool by railway, air or rail arriving there much faster than the early Victorian folk who could take as long as two days from as close by as Manchester.

The Blackpool Pleasure Beach

The busiest attraction in the town, in Lancashire in the north west of England, which brings in about 7 million visitors every 12 months, is Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach is a very large funfair with breath taking big rides, just a few are Ice Blast, the Big One, Grand National, Valhalla, Zipper Dipper and Wild Mouse, and including many, many more rides, sideshows, food booths, sidestalls and games. The newest ride is Infusion, the first ever to have a suspended looping type of coaster completely over water.

Please remember: If you are visiting as a group or family it is possible to save pennies by purchasing an unlimited ride wristband especially if you will be going on many rides because the cost of each ride soon starts to add up.

Getting There And B&B

As mentioned earlier in this article, Blackpool is very easy to get to these days as it is possible to get to the town by plane, train or car. Traveling by rail you will, most probably, arrive at the main station in Blackpool, which is called Blackpool North situated on Talbot Road. A few minutes away, a little bit further down Talbot Road is where you will find Blackpool’s main bus station, Blackpool National Express Coach Station. The other rail station, Blackpool South, is at Waterloo Road, South Promenade, nearer the Pleasure Beach. Blackpool Airport is situated approximately two miles from the center of town and was known as, Blackpool Squires Gate Airport, one of the UK’s oldest airports.

Blackpool bed and breakfast accommodation is generally priced fairly low. Rooms are far less expensive in the off season and not such a bargain at weekends. Blackpool hotels are at their most costly at the time of the Blackpool Illuminations, which is really peak season in Blackpool.

A handy tip to remember: Some hotels and guest houses can be rather busy and noisy especially those situated between North Pier and Central Pier. If you prefer at a place which is not so busy try booking accommodation beyond the North Pier.
