Glencoe has the majesty, beauty and history that no other location in the UK and probably Europe can match. Recently voted by Accommodation-Talk, a leading travel article and news site as the most spectactular holiday destination in the UK Glencoe is a must see location for those interested in the great outdoors.

Glencoe is home to some of Britains highest and most spectacular mountains as well as a haven for a wealth of diverse and beautiful animals such as Red Deer and the Golden Eagle. The windy and often preacrious road that winds through the Glen is simply awe inspiring and rivals anything that can be found in The Alps.

The area is Britains favourite for mountaineers and ‘ridge walkers’ who flock to the Glen for an experience that cannot be equalled anywhere else in the country. The stereotypical ‘pyramid’ mountain Buchaille Etive Mor stands as a mighty and impressive guard to the head of the Glen and is the peak that sadly killed several experienced climbers at the beginning of 2009 when they were caught up in an avalanche.

Tragedy in Glencoe isnt limited to recenty history. In actual fact the dramatic history of the place is a central part of Scottish history and folklore. A small visitor centre is a great place to discover the natural and human history of the area situated in the middle of Glencoe.

In the centre of Glencoe is possibly the most scenic beer garden in the world! The Clachaig Inn is surely in the most remarkable location of any other Inn in the UK and many holiday makers as well as mountaineers use it as their base to explore the area. It is also a focal point for climbers, hikers and adventurers. Watching the diverse range of explorers, climbers, tourists and nature lovers is a good passtime here!

Glencoe itself is sandwiched at one end by the UK’s highest moor, Rannoch Moor and and at the other end by the beautiful village of Ballachulish athe head of Loch Leven.
